Do you like jazz? Well I do, a lot. I always get videos on my feed of lively jazz bands in a tiny bar, moody red lighting, people dancing, and I get so excited because I’d love to go there, but when I click to see the location, those videos are almost always from New York or Paris. This marked my first time going to a Phoenix jazz night at Club Contract. We heard about it from our friends Paralax and had to come check it out. What a night! It had quite literally everything I'd been wishing to experience. As soon as we walked in and I heard the music, I had a great feeling. Throughout the whole night, performers in the band as well as those who were singing/rapping on mic kept rotating, so it was a completely different experience depending on who was playing at that specific time. Everyone was so talented, and you could tell they were having fun playing that night. It was also fun to see the players show off a bit! I met so many wonderful people, danced with new friends, got good pictures, and got to witness music that only the other audience members can say they heard. It was truly a wonderful night. It’s nice to know something like this is going on regularly and so close to me. People always say there’s not much to do here, but there really is! You just have to go searching for exactly what you want and if it doesn’t exist yet, create it! Thank you as always to the people who let me take pictures of their outfits.

Hellooo-oo~ this is Nico! I was one of the contributors who got to be at Jazz Night at Club Contact. As always, it was super stylish with so many talented performers! To me, what’s really impressive about the event is how much it always feels like it’s done by artists, for artists; it’s even on Sundays so musicians who have gigs the rest of the weekend are able to come— and I think that’s sooo intentional. This week’s stand-outs were vocal performances from Hani, from the band Paralax, whose voice always makes me go “woah, this girl’s gonna be big! ( •͈૦•͈ )” and a instrumentalist named Rudy Rodz on a EWI that was like nothing I’d ever seen before… If I had to describe Jazz Nights in a sentence, I’d say: the music is hypnotic, the vibes are electric, and everyone is just way too cool! Thank you to everyone who puts it together and hope to see y’all at the next oneee~

Joshie reached out to us to attend Jazz Night a month back and unfortunately I and Déesse were unable to attend. This time, we made sure to be there and I am so happy we were. I have been to other jazz nights before at other bars, but I had never been to one that was so interactive. There was a sign-up sheet so people could come up and groove with other musicians which was soo cool, and the music was amazing right when we walked in. It was such a pleasant evening, and I was just amazed by all of the local talent. People came and rapped, sang, play trombone, trumpet, drums, percussion, saxophone, and drums. It was so cool to see how much these instruments and the people playing them enhance one another. I would definitely come again, I was super inspired I went home and I produced a jazz track the next day. A truly magical night.
