hey everyone! we are fully in vol 11 mode and we are posting your art on our social medias! We have an interview and some fun videos coming out soon and development of the "Loving Mexicanly: Fact or Fetish?" paper is underway as well!

we will likely begin talking about starting vol 12 soonish, for now i also really encourage you all to work on articles, photo drops, personality tests, or just other stuff to be posted on our website while we continue to ride the wave of 11!

again, friendcities will always stand against social injustice, if you see or know something please do not hesitate to reach out to Voupie, Déesse, Ashley, Aaron, or Andrea with any concerns :D

general zine procedure

so, generally we start things by announcing that we are starting a new zine! after that we submit prompts, that is unless we already planned the prompts ahead of time for an event or special issue. there will be a zine prompt submission form where you can sub,it as many prompts as you would like. after the prompt submission time has passed, each and every prompt is put into a prompt vote where we can all vote for the prompts that we want to use for the upcoming zine. the top 3-4 prompts will be used to make the upcoming zine! the prompts that are selected by the contributors will be posted here with the deadline attached! after that you are set free to create whatever form of art that you like (including but not limited to: drawings, photography, collaging, ceramics, poetry, magazine articles, think pieces, personal anecdotes, mixed media...). you can interpret the prompts however you like, there are no wrong answers. when the deadline has been reached, the editing team will put all of the extra pages, submissions, and other goodies together to make both physical zines as well as the digital release you see on our website!

zine submission guidelines

  • 8.5x11 aspect ratio for single-page submissions
  • 17x11 aspect ratio for full spreads
  • you can submit for as many or as little of the prompts as you'd like
  • submissions go to friendcities@proton.me
  • submissions can be sent in the form of a photo file, a pdf, or a psd!
  • if any confusion persists, do not hesitate to contact voupie or andrue at 623-230-8125, @voupie on instagram, or voupie@proton.me
  • there are templates to use on the right side bar under resources, they are the perfect size for a submission :)
