it's not time to create pieces to be featured in this zine! you will have until SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND at MIDNITE to get your pieces made and turned in! We are open to flexibility if this due date doesn't work for everyone we can push it back or move it forward!

general zine procedure

so, generally we start things by announcing that we are starting a new zine! after that we submit prompts, that is unless we already planned the prompts ahead of time for an event or special issue. there will be a zine prompt submission form where you can sub,it as many prompts as you would like. after the prompt submission time has passed, each and every prompt is put into a prompt vote where we can all vote for the prompts that we want to use for the upcoming zine. the top 3-4 prompts will be used to make the upcoming zine! the prompts that are selected by the contributors will be posted here with the deadline attached! after that you are set free to create whatever form of art that you like (including but not limited to: drawings, photography, collaging, ceramics, poetry, magazine articles, think pieces, personal anecdotes, mixed media...). you can interpret the prompts however you like, there are no wrong answers. when the deadline has been reached, the editing team will put all of the extra pages, submissions, and other goodies together to make both physical zines as well as the digital release you see on our website!

zine submission guidelines

  • 8.5x11 aspect ratio for single-page submissions
  • 17x11 aspect ratio for full spreads
  • you can submit for as many or as little of the prompts as you'd like
  • submissions go to friendcities@proton.me
  • submissions can be sent in the form of a photo file, a pdf, or a psd!
  • if any confusion persists, do not hesitate to contact voupie or andrue at 623-230-8125, @voupie on instagram, or voupie@proton.me
  • there are templates to use on the right side bar under resources, they are the perfect size for a submission :)

    zine concept:

    SWAPMEETS! FRIENDCITIES VOL 11. has a swapmeet concept, this can be regionalized for your local night market or outdoor marketplace. We have a visual concept board for you all! These photos are both found online as well as taken by the talented Déesse! IMPORTANT NOTE! The prompts you submit later do not have to be related to the concept, its mainly for a cohesive design of pages like the table of contents and whatnot. check them out here:
