hey everyone! i have been hard at work getting things ready for FLIPSIDE FLEA ahead of our 12th Zine release!! There is a little over a week before submissions are due, keep an eye out!

everyone who is looking to be paid for their work in the magazine must sign the following 3 forms and email them friendcities@proton.me in the form of a signed, saved PDF :

Form I-9 (if we are audited by the IRS this proves you are legally allowed to work)

Form W-9 (this form registgers you as a contractor of Friendcities' and allows us to prove that we're allowed to pay you!)

The Contributor License Agreement (Voupie will send you a personal link to e-sign this form once you email the top two!)

If you have any problems with these forms please let us know and we can help you out! otherwise, please check out the planning document! there is a lot to figure out, make sure your voice is heard!

general zine procedure

so, generally we start things by announcing that we are starting a new zine! after that we submit prompts, that is unless we already planned the prompts ahead of time for an event or special issue. there will be a zine prompt submission form where you can sub,it as many prompts as you would like. after the prompt submission time has passed, each and every prompt is put into a prompt vote where we can all vote for the prompts that we want to use for the upcoming zine. the top 3-4 prompts will be used to make the upcoming zine! the prompts that are selected by the contributors will be posted here with the deadline attached! after that you are set free to create whatever form of art that you like (including but not limited to: drawings, photography, collaging, ceramics, poetry, magazine articles, think pieces, personal anecdotes, mixed media...). you can interpret the prompts however you like, there are no wrong answers. when the deadline has been reached, the editing team will put all of the extra pages, submissions, and other goodies together to make both physical zines as well as the digital release you see on our website!

zine submission guidelines

  • 8.5x11 aspect ratio for single-page submissions
  • 17x11 aspect ratio for full spreads
  • you can submit for as many or as little of the prompts as you'd like
  • submissions go to friendcities@proton.me
  • submissions can be sent in the form of a photo file, a pdf, or a psd!

  • there are templates to use on the right side bar under resources, they are the perfect size for a submission :)
